2026 Hull Split Forecast

Using data from our in-canopy weather station network, we've created the following report of forecasted 1% hull split dates for nonpareil almonds.

Regional hull split forecast

The warmer temperatures this spring have led to a forecast of a much earlier hull split across the Central Valley.

In the map below, the earliest predicted Nonpareil 1% split is June 17th, 2026 and the latest is July 3rd, 2026. Refer to the color scale to the right of the map to see which dates align with which colored region.

  • Red regions indicate places where hull split is forecasted to start earlier (mid-June)
  • Yellow regions indicate places where hull split is forecasted to start later (early July)

Note that these predicted hull split dates do not account for the impact of plant water status leading up to split. Moderate amounts of water stress can lead to nuts splitting earlier, whereas severe stress has been shown to delay hull split.
